DESCRIPTION:Ladies and Gentlemen:  Start Your Sails!\n\n\nThe Schooner Wharf Bar Wrecker’s Cup Race Series is an all-in-fun race series that recalls the tradition of the wreckers in the Key West of the 1800’s.  Last month’s regatta included 16′ Hobie Cats\, sloops of varying sizes\, recreational yachts\, live aboard vessels and seven magestic schooners graced the Key West Harbor!\n\n\nVessels compete in different classes; Classic\, Schooner\, Multihull\, Monohull over 40 feet\, Monohull 30 – 39 feet\, Monohull under 29′.  1st\, 2nd & 3rd place will be awarded in each division\, with trophies\, Pusser’s Rum ceramic flask\, Schooner Wharf Bar Tabs & Wrecker tee shirts as prizes.\n\n\nVisiting yachters are invited to join our local “wrecker’s fleet.”  Come meet fellow sailors\, enjoy a fun day on the water and celebrate the “victor’s spoils” at Schooner Wharf Bar.\n\n\nCaptains meeting is held Saturday\, March 25th at 7:00 p.m. on the Schooner Wharf’s Sail Loft with complimentary Pusser’s Rum Punch and hors d’oeuvres from the Schooner Wharf Galley.\n\n\nAll participating vessels will be eligible for up to 4 BBQ dinners for captain & crew at the Awards Ceremony.  The race is video taped\, see yourself under sail on big screen at the Awards Party! Hailing from Toronto\, Canada\, Skraeling is a talented and entertaining combo that keeps its audiences happy and guarantees a good time for all.\n\n\nAnd the jigs not up!  Everyone will extend their “Irish” heritage for the 39th annual St. Paddy’s Day Bar Stroll on Saturday\, March 18\, which just like everything else\, always ends up at Schooner Wharf Bar.\n\n\nMichael McCloud\, “Professor” Pete Peterson and Captain Carl “Guitar” Peachy will start the entertainment early morning original music and biting humor. Then kick up your Irish heels to the spirited sounds of Skaeling fusing catchy originals with traditional Celtic rock folk and fiddle tunes. Headliners for the evening are the popular local group The Doerfels with their contemporary and classic rock\, country\, alternative\, and pop all performed in a unique style that all their own until midnight!\n\n\nCelebrate by wearing green\, getting pinched and sipping Black and Tans\, green beer and schnapps.  Enjoy traditional corned beef and cabbage prepared by the Schooner galley. Participants race from the southernmost point in the United States to Havana\, Cuba. The mission of the Conch Republic Cup is\, “to introduce as many of the U.S. sailing community to Cuba as possible as well as revitalize racing in Cuba.” \nRacing between Key West and Cuba has been occurring since the 1970’s. In 1997\, a partnership between the Key West Community Sailing Center and Hemingway International Yacht Club was formed and the Conch Republic Cup began. \nThis 13-day event draws both cruisers and racers from around the world and offers both long-distance offshore racing as well as inshore buoy racing. They will be hosting the Knot & Shot Contest every night at 8:00 p.m. during the yacht races. Anyone interested challengers will race to tie a bowline and lasso a piling but there’s a twist… \nChallengers will stand in front of an ice luge and swallow an icy shot of Mt. Gay that is poured from the top. They then have to tie a bowline and use it to lasso a piling that is on wheels several feet away. The sailor then pulls the piling to him or her and picks up a cold Kalik beer that is sitting on the base of the piling. \nWinners can receive great prizes ranging from Schooner Wharf Bar gift certificates to Harken yacht equipment.
