SUMMARY:2024 Annual Schooner Wharf Wreckers Cup Race - Second Race

It’s time to clean the bottom and pile on the sails. \nThis all-in-fun race series recalls the tradition of the wreckers in the Key West of the 1800’s. Vessels laden with rich cargoes from Gulf and Caribbean ports often became victims of storm and the unmarked reefs off Key West. \nThe first wrecker to reach the site had the responsibility to save the passengers and crew—but they also won the right to salvage the cargoes. Some historians have written that it was not unusual for 20 or 30 boats to race to a wreck. \nThe Captains’ Meetings are held in the Sail Loft at Schooner Wharf at 7:00 p.m. the Saturday before each race. Captains enjoy complimentary Pusser’s Rum punch while reviewing race procedures.. \nThe Awards Ceremony & Party is held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday\, race day. Captains & crew can see themselves under sail while viewing film footage taken of the race by the official race committee boat. The popular Big Daddy Rich will be playing Rock\, Soul\, Blues\, Country\, Rare 1 Hit Wonders and AM Gold from the 60s and 70s all with fun and energy. \nTrophies and prizes are earned by the top 3 vessels in 6 to 7 different classes –schooner\, multi-hull\, classic\, monohull 29′ and under\, monohull 30-39 feet\, monohull 40 feet and possibly a Hobie Cat class! \nAt the race start Key West harbor is a magnificent sight\, filled with colorful sails and spinnakers on vessels ranging from 16 feet to 120 feet. \nSUNDAY\, January 28\, 1:00 PM • Captains’ Meeting Saturday\, January 27\, 7:00 PM\nSUNDAY\, February 25\, 1:00 PM • Captains’ Meeting Saturday\, February 24\, 7:00 PM\nSUNDAY\, March 31\, 1:00 PM • Captains’ Meeting Saturday\, March 30\, 7:00 PM\nSUNDAY\, April 28\, 1:00 PM • Captains’ Meeting Saturday\, April 27\, 7:00 PM\n \nThe Race Course is 7 miles from Key West Harbor to Sand Key. SUMMARY:Schooner Wharf Knot & Shot Competition
DESCRIPTION:2024 Schooner Wharf Knot & Shot Competition\nKey West wouldn’t be Key West without sailors and Schooner Wharf Bar\, and sailors wouldn’t be sailors without rum and ropes! \nWatch what happens when all four of them combine on the docks at Schooner Wharf Bar\, your After Sail Headquarters! Sailors and any interested challengers will frustrate themselves and entertain the crowd as they race to tie a bowline and lasso a piling. But add a shot of Mt. Gay Rum and an icy cold beer to the contest and a good time is inevitable. Entrants stand in front of an ice luge and swallow an icy shot of Mt. Gay that is poured from the top. They then have to tie a bowline and use it to lasso a piling that is on wheels\, several feet away. The sailor then pulls the piling to him or her and picks up a cold beer\, that is sitting on the base of the piling. They then drink the beer and turn the supposedly empty bottle upside down on their head. \nOur Knot & Shot Competition is a fun and good natured race against the clock and other sailors. \nPrizes will be given for the best times\, and winners can receive great prizes from Harken yacht equipment\, Sailing Services\, Schooner Wharf Bar gift certificates and plenty of Mt. Gay Rum and Mount Gay XO. Spectators can enjoy the laughs and drinks while they share sailing stories with local sailors. \n2024 Knot & Shot Crucial Information flyer – coming soon! \n

SUMMARY:Annual Schooner Wharf Minimal Regatta
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n\nAnnual Schooner Wharf Minimal Regatta\nMay 28\, 2023\nPick up your entry form at Schooner Wharf Bar today! \nTo register and pay online\, please click here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCalling All Ship Wrights \nMinimal Regatta Construction Rules\n1. One sheet of 4′ x 8′ x 1/4″ plywood\n2. Two 2″x 4″ 8′\n3. One pound of fasteners\n4. One roll of 2″ x 60 yard duct tape\n5. No caulking or adhesives – Epoxy paint is permitted\n6. Painting of boats is optional\n7. Oars/Paddles must be made out of these materials \nThere are two categories of “Minimal Vessels” Kayak/Canoe Design & Open Design\nCompetitors will win prizes in each design group for Fastest – 1st\, 2nd & 3rd Place\, Most Creative Designs – 1st & 2nd Place\, Best Paint Jobs\, Best Costumed Entries\, Sportsmanship Awards\, and Sinker Awards \nThe $20 entry fee will benefit our local VFW Post 3911 Veteran’s Relief fund for Monroe County. \nBoats made of thin plywood and duct tape don’t sound very seaworthy\, but they’re the only vessels allowed in the 31st annual Schooner Wharf Minimal Regatta\, expected to provide maximum merriment for spectators Sunday\, May 28. \nThe wacky Memorial Day Weekend regatta takes place off the Schooner Wharf Bar\, 202 William St.\, in the Key West Historic Seaport. A vessel inspection is set for 12:30 p.m. Sunday\, with the first heat around 1:30 p.m. \nEach team can use only the most minimal materials to build its boat — just a single sheet of 4-by-8-foot plywood\, two 8-foot-long two-by-fours\, a roll of duct tape and a pound of fasteners. Calking and adhesives are forbidden\, though epoxy paint is permitted. \nTeams are charged with keeping their homemade craft afloat long enough to complete a short course. Up to six members are allowed per team\, and at least one “designated passenger” must crew the vessel throughout the regatta. \nCostumes and themed entries are encouraged\, and many boats end up being more scenic than seaworthy. Entries in past regattas have included alligators\, spaceships\, guitars\, wine bottles and replicas of schooners\, shrimp boats\, pirate vessels and paddle boats! Costumes have ranged from the crew of Gilligan’s Island\, the Adams family\, Spock and Star Trek\, Batman & the Joker\, Barbie and her Dream House\, Banana Splits and Red Hot Chili Peppers and Popeye! \nMultiple prizes are to be awarded in categories including fastest boat\, most creative designs\, best paint jobs\, sportsmanship and best costumed entries. In addition\, organizers plan to present the disheartening “sinker” awards to the hapless teams unable to stay above water. \nAs well as regatta action\, Schooner Wharf Bar also plans to host its traditional Memorial Day weekend barbecue. Ya Gotta Regatta! \nEvent information: 305-292-9520

SUMMARY:37th Annual Schooner Wharf Wrecker’s Cup Race
DESCRIPTION:  \nAhoy Mates! Captains enjoy complimentary Pusser’s Rum punch while reviewing race procedures. \nThis original nautical event is another creation of Schooner Wharf Bar owners\, Evalena and Paul Worthington\, and is enjoyed by visiting yachters\, local private boats and Key West charter vessels. You don’t need a boat of your own to participate\, book passage and crew on one of the charter boats in the Wreckers’ fleet. \n\nThe Race Course is 7 miles from Key West Harbor to Sand Key. Race starts are: 1:00 PM and 1:05 PM for up to seven different classes. Wrecks rarely occurred in good weather\, but the Schooner Wharf Wrecker’s Cup Races are conducted SAFETY FIRST. Stand by on #68 if severe weather is forecast. The Captains’ Meetings are held in the Sail Loft at Schooner Wharf Bar at 7:00 PM the evening before the race. The Award Party & Ceremony is held at 7:00 PM on Race Day. Awards in each race will include Original Trophies\, Pusser Rum & Goodies\, Schooner Wharf Bar Tabs and Wrecker’s Race Tee Shirts. \n*Event Co-Sponsored by PUSSER’S RUM and presented by SCHOONER WHARF BAR. \nFor more information\, do not hesitate to call Evalena or Sheree at 305-292-9520

Captains enjoy complimentary Pusser’s Rum punch while reviewing race procedures. \nFor more information\, do not hesitate to call Evalena at or Sheree at 305-292-9520.
