Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy at the Key West Historic Seaport

Eager to help residents and businesses get back to work and on the road to economic recovery, the City of Key West has worked tirelessly to ensure all city operations adhere to best practices and guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Fortunately, all Key West restaurants and retail establishments are allowed to be open, provided they follow all rules to protect the health and safety of guests, employees, and the public. You can read the latest directive in full, but we’ve made it easier for you in this post by highlighting the key rules and recommending some dining spots with that irreplaceable Key West flavor.

Current Mask Rules

Every person in Key West who is away from their residence needs to carry/wear a face mask at all times, even if social distancing is also maintained. It’s the responsibility of businesses to ensure that every individual in an establishment complies with these regulations.

Exceptions to Mask Rules

  • Brides/Grooms: Brides and grooms do not need to wear masks while having photographs taken at their wedding ceremony.
  • Musicians/Entertainers: Entertainers and performers who are separated from their audience by plexiglass and at least 10 feet may remove their facial coverings/masks.
  • Private Boats/Private Vehicles: Masks are not mandatory if you are in a private, non-commercial vehicle or vessel.

Open for Business

All restaurants are open with capacity limits, including no seating at bars or counters in restaurants is currently allowed.  Here are a few of our favorites:

Fisherman’s Cafe

Fisherman’s Cafe mixes the Old Key West flavors with a bold, modern twist. For one of the classics, we recommend Harvey’s Johnny Cake smothered in cheese grits. If you’re looking for a modern twist, check out their Lobster Enchilau Tacos with island sauce or a Black Bean Burger with avocado. Not hungry and just looking for a morning caffeine fix? They open every morning at 7:00 A.M. with fresh coffee, cafe con leche, and coladas.

Conch Republic Seafood Company

This waterfront spot features delicious eats, live music, and an amazing happy hour. There’s even an aquarium! Conch Republic is a great place to indulge in your favorite classic Key West seafood. Conch chowder? Mahi sandwiches? What about some of their special pink shrimp?  Your seafood cravings await.

Schooner Wharf Bar

In addition to mouthwatering seafood and delicious burgers, wings, & sandwich selections, it’s always a party at Schooner Wharf Bar

But don’t take our word for it – look at their exciting list of upcoming fall & winter events that’ll surely get you into the holiday spirit.

Fisherman’s Cafe

There’s a certain, unmistakable familiarity you’ll feel the moment you arrive at the Fisherman’s Café. Each item on the menu is reminiscent of an era gone by — a time when local fishermen brought their day’s catch right off their boats and into the kitchen, and when chefs used only fresh ingredients to prepare handmade specialties. Stop by in the morning and enjoy a fresh breakfast sandwich or try one of their burgers, sandwiches or seafood for lunch!

Get Your Shamrock on at The Key West Historic Seaport!

Come Get Your Shamrock on at The Key West Historic Seaport!

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, and at the Key West Historic Seaport, we believe there’s always a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow, and that every day brings the possibility of adventure and good fortune!

On that note, from sailing adventures, fishing charters, delicious restaurants, cute local shops, and more, here are some great events and promotions taking place for St. Patrick’s Day at the Key West at the Historic Seaport.

44th Annual St. Paddy’s Day Bar Stroll

Event founder and organizer Rick Dostal started the St. Patrick’s Day Bar None Suds Run in 1979 with the help of Curly McGinn. Curly owned the Sandcastle Bar (now Michael’s restaurant on Margaret St.). At his request, the run ended at his bar and every year that it did, Curly, Rick, and the Strollers drank the place dry!

Finally, last but not least (we personally think it’s the best),  Schooner Wharf Bar  is a wonderful place to unwind at the end of all that strollin’!

If you’re looking for something in the water for your St. Patrick’s Day, Fury Water Adventures Key West is putting a festive spin on all of their trips on March 17th! With select trips featuring green beer and other special holiday treats, you’ll be sure to get your shamrock on with a Fury Watersports adventure on St. Patrick’s Day.
